The Cats' Stories
From here there are individual pages telling the story of each cat that is either living here or has lived here. Some may cause you to smile and others will make you weep.
One of the reasons for living here was so that the cats I had before we came could be safe from roads and other hazards of living in a town or city. I never thought for a moment that we would have so many cats and perhaps part of the reason for that is that I volunteer to help a national animal charity organisation. All of these cats needed a haven and to feel the love and affection that can be given and felt between animals and their human friends. To not feel fear, to behave and do the things a cat should to know that food and shelter are there providing a warm and comfortable place for sleep and feeding with no threats other than one of the group's bullies!
I wasn't always a cat person! We had dogs as a child and cats were alien to me as my mother thought they were not clean and my father's job was often involving collecting a stray cat and in those days homes were not found. Harsh though that sounds, for me as a child, I can recall so clearly not really understanding what that actually meant. I knew that I would not see the creature again and that it would 'fall asleep', but never to run free again and feel the wind and sun on it's back was not soemthing I understood. Children do not understand death no matter what we tell them or try to make them see it's not something that bnature intends for them to comprehend for how can they be children and enjoy the pleasures that life can bring if they know at early point the finality of life.
So back to cats!
As I said I wasn't a cat person that is not until I got my first cats Yogi and BooBoo. I had finally bought my first home and felt alone, not lonely but alone. Those who have lived alone will understand the difference between the two. So I knew I couldn't have a dog as I was working full time and often had to work late, as well as doing two part-time evening jobs to help meet the mortgage payments and household bills! A work colleague suggested a cat. I thought about it and decided I would so contacted a local woman who rescued cats and after a visit she persuaded me to have two as two's company! Hence the arrival of my first cats Yogi and BooBoo. Their story begins the many Cat Stories. If you are an animal lover I hope you will enjoy reading these and understand that my belief that animals are sentient beings entitled to a safe and healthy life with food and shelter to keep them and protect them.
If you are not an animal lover you will not agree and for that I make no excuses when I say that's your choice and you miss out on so many human emotions because you have no depth of feeling. Animals have an ability to bring out in humans the same nurturing feelings as we have for children but in a more protective way for they are even more vulnerable as they have no voice, children grow and eventually become adults and so their life can and does change. For animals this is their life, nothign changes their ability to look out for themselves or voice their unhappiness or worries. We humans must do that for them. As the 'dominate' species we have a responsibility that is far greater than we realise or seem to accept. I didn't take on this role to care for so many creatures, it sort of grew and sometimes my patience is tested yet I always think if it hadn't been for me and my husband Jeff, where would all these wonderful souls be or would have been, for there are far fewer people who care about animals than you may realise.
