Jennie

When we bought Blairvoyach Farm the previous owners asked if we would take on the residing cat. Fancy asking a cat lover that question!

We had no idea what she was like since we hadn't seen her and no idea if she came indoors, was friendly, neutered or what.

She is we think around 12-15 years old (at the time of writing 30 Decemebr 2011). Jeff believes that the previous owners had said to him that she was already here when they moved here which would then make her to be at least 15 if not 16 years old.

When we first came Jennie, she didn't have a name then, I named her after Jeannie from 'The Minack Chronicles', but when I called that name it felt as though that wasn't the right one...Jennie popped into my head and that seemed right for she answered to that name immediately!

She lived outside and wouldn't come anywhere near the door of the house. She would come into the sun room and be fed but initially one couldnt get near her. Over time , several months she began to let me get next top her and eventually I stroked her for the first time...but woe betide down her back that was a No,No. ON her hear gently was acceptable. She never ventured far from the house and her territory included the big barn opposite, the paddock at the back of teh cottage, the smaller barns and stables, the garden but not the main part, down teh lane a short distance and round the back of the big barn. She is a very clean cat although from the beginning she never seemed to get to grips with her own grooming and her back often was matted, there would always be vast amounts of fur whereever she lay. When it came to our first winter I worried about her comfort outside...cat lovers do you know! We set up the sun room so that there was an Infra red lamp hanging above the area where she would often sit and sleep. Yes she had by now trusted us sufficiently to come into the sun room to sleep but would dash away if we came out too quickly.
